China Bars Some Rhianna Hits From Download Sites

BEIJING, China -- Chinas Secretary of state for Culture has purchased music download sites to remove tunes by Rhianna, Katy Perry, the Backstreet Boys along with other celebrities within two days or face punishment. The ministry published a listing of 100 tunes including Lady Gagas Judas and Perrys Last Friday Evening that needed to be cleared in the Chinese web simply because they had never been posted for mandatory government screening. Six Rhianna tunes in most were out there, all from her latest album. The 12-year-old ballad I Would Like It This Way through the Backstreet Boys seemed to be specific. A large number of Hong Kong and Taiwanese pop tunes along with a couple of Western hits were listed too. The ministry stated the rule was designed to preserve Chinas national cultural security. Sites were advised within the August. 19 announcement published towards the ministrys website that they until Sept. 15 to handle self-correction and remove the tunes.
